"Karate Kid" Remake Filmmaker Rumored to Direct "Bakugan" movie

Harald Zwart, the director of the 2010 remake of The Karate Kid is rumored to direct a live-action adaption of the Japanese anime and game series "Bakugan", under the production of Universal Studios, says The Wrap. The Norwegian film director previously released films such as Agent Cody Banks and The Pink Panther 2.

I don't know how to feel about this. I'm in no way a Bakugan fan but I'd probably sit through a movie about it, but The Karate Kid remake was such a fail that I'm not sure.

And, really, can you actually take Dan's hair seriously in real life?

Feel free to use this post for casting hopes.

  1. Ugh, someone kill me now. If this happens, I will be so disappointed. A while back I found a cast list on Bakugan Wiki, and I wasn't happy.

  2. It is a rumour...

Wouldn't it feel like a live-action version of Pokemon? By the way, I'm surprised Japan hasn't done that yet (or have they?).

  3. @FoB Ooh, what's the link?

@Kiku Even though it's a rumor, it's all over the Internet. Just google "Bakugan Movie Harald Zwart". I found all of these:

  4. I'm confused witht the idioms "tapped" and "attached." I suppose it means that they chose him to direct the movie but have they given him the money to produce it yet? Or is it in development hell?

  5. Possibly. Movies are always iffy with those kinds of stuff. I always wonder what they're thinking. In fact, I'd be surprised if this movie makes the final cut. I just have trouble picturing a live-action Bakugan movie.

  6. It probably look like Pokemon? Think about it: creatures appearing out of spheres; calling their attacks; little kids control these creatures that could probably kill them if they wanted to...

  7. Pretty much. I just hope that they don't overdramatize the whole thing like they do in the anime. Like the thing where their Bakugan shooters turned into laser swords. Like, what?

  8. I got really confused about that. I don't watch the episodes regularly, only when I do get the time to see them and like "what?" when I saw the swords.

How old are Dan and the gang supposed to be again? I'm trying to figure out how well casting would be.
